Dr. Banwart was born in Whittemore, Iowa. He was a dentist and the retired owner of Banwart Dental Practice in Adel, Iowa. He moved to Avon Park, Florida about three years before his death.
Harold Banwart served as a dental technician during World War II. He was a member of Avon Park Brethren Church, Rotary International, American Dental Association, Adel American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
After his retirement he spent several years volunteering his professional skills around the world. He worked with Church World Services in Botswana, Haiti and Yucatan and was a Rotary International volunteer in Hong Kong and Puebla, Mexico. He was a citizen volunteer with Heifer International.
He died of a heart ailment on Wednesday March 22, 2000.
A Memorial was established on his wife and his name in 2000 with Heifer International Foundation, with gifts from family and friends in Iowa and Colorado. Every year, income from the Harold and Lois Banwart Memorial will be used by Heifer International to help families produce food and income for themselves.
