A Donor's View

Over the years, Joyce Hicks of Sacramento, California expressed her love to her five children and eight grandchildren in many different ways, such as through cards, gifts, phone calls and visits. However, in 1998 Mrs. Hicks said, "I caught two birds in one net or, should I say, I loved children in two places with one gift."

Mrs. Hicks's love for Heifer and its mission has grown over the years. When she learned of the Foundation's Endowment program, she jumped at the chance. For each of her eight grandchildren, she established birthday endowments. Each year, they will receive a card that tells them that money from the endowment established in their honor will send an animal or a share of an animal to help children in another country.
