North America Endowments

One of the great myths of world hunger is that it only exists in Third World countries. It is estimated that 31 million hungry people can be found in the United States. That is why Heifer's North America program serves the needs of the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Heifer International has been working with groups of limited-resources farmers in North America since 1947 when the first livestock projects were started with farmer groups in Arkansas. Since that time, we have supported more than 225 projects in 37 states, 3 districts in Mexico and two Canadian provinces. Whether it is the economically devastated Mississippi Delta, the urban projects of Chicago, or the communities of the Indian Nations, Heifer is working with proven sustainable practices to alleviate poverty and overcome economic struggles of people.
