SOUTH AMERICA: FORREST AND NANCY MARQUART ENDOWMENT
Established in October of 2004 by Forrest and Nancy Marquart of Markesan, Wisconsin.
Heifer has a wide variety of projects stretching across the South American continent from Ecuador to Argentina. Heifer Bolivia project recipients are made up of families of small agricultural producers. They are one of the largest sectors in Bolivia and supply one of the basic needs of its population: its food. Heifer International has had a long and productive history in Bolivia since its inception on May 13, 1957 with the arrival of rabbits to the Bolivian Highlands, through The Methodist Evangelical Church. Heifer Bolivia projects include: dairy cows, llamas, alpacas, hair sheep and guinea pig projects, especially with agro-forestry farming practices as an important component. Heifer International has projects in Ecuador dealing with animal production, agro-ecology, and sustainable farming systems projects with dairy cattle, wool sheep, guinea pigs and chickens. As in all countries, Heifer fashions the program most appropriate for the area; for example, the Pacific coastal regions and high plateaus. These are just a few of the life-changing projects making life better for the people of South America.
