NICARAGUA COUNTRY ENDOWMENT

Established in 2002 with a gift from Norma A. Fritsche of Northridge, California to aid the work of Heifer International in Nicaragua.

Nicaragua is another of the hemisphere's poorest countries, and suffers from massive unemployment. Hurricane Mitch in 1998 and a later drought wiped out some farms that were barely making ends meet. They are in the middle of a three-year poverty reduction and growth plan, but need is still great.

Heifer's work in Nicaragua includes agro-forestry projects, gifts of goats and rabbits, and home garden projects focusing on sustainable use of available land and resources.

I/We understand that this gift is given to an endowment at Heifer International Foundation and that the principal of the Fund shall remain intact and shall not be subject to invasion or distribution. I understand that 5.5% of the attributed earnings will be made available to Heifer International annually for its intended use.

I/We understand that if the Board of Trustees of Heifer International Foundation shall at any time determine that the uses of the Endowment are no longer appropriate and in accord with my/our desires and the objectives and principles of Heifer International Foundation, then Heifer International Foundation may, in the exercise of discretion, direct the application of the same in whole or in part to meet other appropriate projects as close as possible to the original intent and within the general charitable purposes of Heifer International Foundation.
