Country Endowments
By establishing a Heifer Foundation country endowment, you can designate your gifts to be used for the places and purposes that are nearest to your heart. With a gift of $25,000 or more, you can create your own fund for the programs that most interest you and add to it continually, while the principle grows each year. Each year, 5.5 percent of your endowment will be made available to the program you designate. If the money is not needed at the time, it will continue to grow at a faster rate to provide a larger dividend at which time it is needed.
Benefits:
You receive an immediate charitable deduction for income tax purposes. You receive the benefits similar to those of a family foundation - without the expense or administrative hassles. The account will be in your family name and honor your family's tradition of giving. Unlike a one-time gift, your endowment continues to grow indefinitely.
HOW IT WORKS:
By establishing a country endowment, you will be insuring additional income for the specific country of your choice. You may establish an endowment for a country program that is already in existence, or create an endowment for a program that is not yet in existence. If there is not currently a functioning program, the money will be set aside and will continue to grow at a faster pace until the program is in practice. With good investments by Heifer Foundation, income from the Country Endowments should increase annually and be available to the programs indefinitely.
HOW DOES IT HELP:
With the kind of support a country endowment provides, entire communities can be lifted out of poverty and given sustainable means to support themselves. More than a one-time gift, a country endowment provides annual support that will increase with time and provide support indefinitely.
Heifer International has witnessed many success stories since the beginning of the organization. The organization is always establishing new programs that change lives and bring entire regions of the world out of starvation and poverty. However, Heifer International does not do it alone. It takes a concerted effort by those who believe in "passing on the gift," so that those less fortunate may become self-reliant and live without the burdens of hunger and poverty.
