ROMANIA COUNTRY ENDOWMENT
Established in 2003 with a gift from Dan and Jane Jennings of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. Jane is a member of the Heifer Foundation Board of Trustees. Additional contributions have come from, among others, her local Rotary Club.
Heifer International is involved in more than a dozen projects in Romania. One interesting effort is the revitalization of the endangered Furioso North Star horse. During the communist era, more than 600,000 horses, including many North Star used for draught power, were killed or seized from small farmers and sold. Now some farmers have regained their land and wish to replace the horses they lost. Heifer is helping. Another great story is a project developed in cooperation with Rotary International, "Farmers Feed the Children." which provides nutritional supplements to orphans, hospitals, and boarding schools for disabled children. There's even a trout fish project in a Carpathian mountain village that endures a harsh climate year-round, but, among its few resources, has cold, clean running water. More traditional projects include gifts of dairy cows, swine and poultry.
To build on the generosity of others and improve the lives of the people of Romania, please give today.
