HANNA AND GAIL STEFANSKA FUND FOR POLAND
Established in 2002 with a gift from Hanna's daughter-in-law, Gail Stefanska of San Angelo, Texas. Hanna lives in a suburb of Warsaw.
Heifer International is currently involved in almost two-dozen projects in Poland. Last year, the 1,000th family within the Podkarpacei region received a Simmental heifer in a memorable passing-on-the-gift ceremony. The Simmental is an old breed, valuable as a dual-purpose (beef and dairy) and draught animal, and fares well in the mountainous regions. Other projects include the reintroduction of the Polish Red, an extremely robust dairy animal, and gifts of rabbits, sheep, hens and more.
Another area of focus for Heifer in this region is improving the lives of the thousands of "social orphans", children abandoned by parents who, in financial crisis, felt their children might get better care, nutrition and education at an orphanage.
