ANNA ZAWADA MEMORIAL ENDOWMENT
Established in 1998 with gifts from Heifer International staff and other friends of Anna to benefit the work of Heifer International in the Central and Eastern Europe region. Anna, of Polish descent, worked for Heifer for more than a decade and was instrumental in the establishment of Heifer’s Central and Eastern Europe program, and served as its first Program Director.
Heifer's work in Europe dates back to post-World War II, but with the growth of communism and the Cold War era, program development in Central and Eastern Europe ceased.
Now, after more than 40 years of centralized economic systems, the transition to a free market economy for the countries of Central and Eastern Europe is exacting a toll on many families. Change has been slow and will continue to create economic hardship for years to come. Heifer International's grassroots approach to sustainable rural development has helped to rebuild the small family farms that will sustain not only the farm families but also the communities where they live.
To continue the work being done in Central and Eastern Europe; please give today.
