Central & Eastern Europe: Kosovo Endowments
Riza and his family are among the many Kosovars that were forced out of Kosovo by Serb Police. Piled on a delivery truck, he and his extended family of 40 (including 22 children), traveled for three nights and two days 50 horrific miles to the Albanian border. Once in Albania, they were taken in by the Kaloshi family, who were dairy farmers and Heifer International partners. Following Heifer's cornerstone of "sharing and caring," the Kaloshis shared their home and milk with Riza's family.
A Heifer International partnership initiative is helping to relieve the strain this war has placed on a country already stretched to dangerous limits. The emergency program supplies Albanian farmers with concentrated feed, which increases milk production. The extra milk is, in turn, passed on to the Kosovar deportees who live with or near the farmer. Albanian farmers and Heifer are working together to reach the Kosovars in their hour of need. More than 400 families have received some form of assistance from Heifer-Albania partners in the last four years, mostly in the form of animal donations. Almost all Albanians are poor, so it is difficult to choose beneficiaries.
Thanks to your support, many more people can benefit from this program.
