Education Endowments

Girl and globeEducation is the beginning of the end to the world's hunger problem. Until hearts and minds are changed, the human race can't begin to envision an end to world hunger. There are those who believe that many of the world's poor are living a life of choice. There are those who believe that it's somebody else's problem. Many choose not to think about it. The truth about hunger is that there is enough food; hunger is not necessary; hunger is a social creation; hungry people are a social phenomenon, and consequently one which depends on us, and one we can change.

The Heifer International vision for the future is that education will play a more significant role in our mission. We will exist not only to provide livestock and sustainable development to those in need, but also to enlighten the world of a more sustainable lifestyle to rid and protect the human race from wholesale hunger and abject poverty.

It is important for every human being to realize the importance of living in a way that protects our natural resources. It is also important to be aware of the part each person has to play in order to sustain humankind. Whether you give to Heifer International, or volunteer to teach children organic gardening, everyone shares in the responsibility to end the problem.

By contributing to an education endowment, you are ensuring that every year: more school children will learn about the realities of world hunger and how we are all able to make a difference; more people will be able to have a Global Village experience at a Heifer facility that gives them insight into walking in another's shoes for awhile and walking away changed forever; more people will know about the challenges and solutions that are available, and what each one of us can do to change the world forever.
