Heifer Foundation Launches Country Endowment Program
Heifer International Foundation is set to officially launch their Country Endowment Program with the newly produced Endless Giving catalog. The idea behind the catalog is that donors will be able to see the kinds of programs that Heifer is involved in around the world, and lend support to the areas of their personal interest.
Country endowments work in a similar fashion to a private foundation, without the administrative hassles. Funds are set aside for a particular program, initiative, or area of interest. The funds are then invested by the Foundation to grow and support the program toward sustainability. Each year 5.5% of the value of the endowment is available to Heifer program staff to use above and beyond their annual budget provided by Heifer International.
The impact of country endowments that continue to grow for the various areas in which Heifer is involved (i.e. Asia/South Pacific, Latin America/Caribbean, Central Eastern Europe, North America, Gender Equity, AIDS, Environment, Education, etc.) is limitless. "If each country program were able to become self-sustaining, it would guarantee a team working to end hunger and poverty on the local level like the world has yet to see," says Heifer Foundation's president Janet Ginn. "Heifer International knows that the solution to hunger lies not only in encouraging people to donate money to buy animals for families in need, but also in establishing a meaningful connection between donors and recipients."
The Endless Giving catalog serves just a small sample of the work that Heifer is doing around the world, as well as the ideas behind them. It also encourages others to give to the already existing country endowments, or to establish their own in honor of their families, in order to "pass on" their legacy to those behind them.
