Thailand Endowments

THAILAND ENDOWMENT

Established in 2003 with funds raised by the Thailand office staff and matched by Heifer Foundation.

Heifer Thailand has numerous current projects, including admirable work introducing a variety of animals into leper colonies. Recipients raise their self-image while raising cattle, buffalo, fish, poultry and feed, and subsequently their income and diet quality. Heifer has even introduced elephants into communities, and trained villagers in animal waste management and using kitchen gardens to improve food security. Heifer's primary work in Thailand is with tribal peoples in the northern mountains. Many had been forced to roam, practicing slash-and-burn agriculture until the soil was depleted. Heifer is teaching them how to build stable, integrated, sustainable farming systems. Villages have come alive with the clinking of cowbells. "Livestock has become the solution to our grief," says one Thailand project partner.

I/We understand that this gift is given to an endowment at Heifer International Foundation and that the principal of the Fund shall remain intact and shall not be subject to invasion or distribution. I understand that 5.5% of the attributed earnings will be made available to Heifer International annually for its intended use.

I/We understand that if the Board of Trustees of Heifer International Foundation shall at any time determine that the uses of the Endowment are no longer appropriate and in accord with my/our desires and the objectives and principles of Heifer International Foundation, then Heifer International Foundation may, in the exercise of discretion, direct the application of the same in whole or in part to meet other appropriate projects as close as possible to the original intent and within the general charitable purposes of Heifer International Foundation.
