ZIMBABWE: FRANK E. PAGENKEMPER ORPHAN HIV/AIDS ENDOWMENT
Established on March 1, 2006 by The Presbyterian Church of Deep Run in Perkasie, Pennsylvania. A World War II Veteran, Frank worked for Merck and Co. producing Hepatitis B vaccines. After 40 years of service, Frank retired from the Biological Production Administration and spent the next two years engineering and building a blood processing facility in Shanghai, China.
According to a biography supplied by his wife, Frank traveled to Zimbabwe, Africa, with a group representing the Philadelphia Presbytery to develop a relationship between the organization and Africa. While there he met countless children on the streets of Harare who were orphaned by AIDS, including many that turned to prostitution and theft to support themselves. “Because Frank was instrumental in producing the Hepatitis B vaccine and had contact with AIDS orphans in Zimbabwe, it is appropriate to fund an endowment for Zimbabwe orphans.
The country is racked by AIDS (The World Factbook says a full 1/3 of the country’s adults are HIV positive, with at least 800,000 AIDS orphans); inflation is out of control; and the chaotic land distribution campaign begun by President Mugabe in 2000 has caused an exodus of white farmers and crippled the economy. Heifer International in Zimbabwe has livestock projects including dairy cattle, draft animals, donkeys, pigs, goats, rabbits and ostrich. The recipients receive training in agro-forestry, animal care and drought mitigation to improve nutrition and income to provide daily necessities and education fees. There is also much work with orphans and their caregivers.
To restore hope and health to the orphans of Zimbabwe, please give today.
