GERALD AND ELLA FLORENCE WILLIAMS CAMEROON MEMORIAL ENDOWMENT
Established in 2000 with gifts from friends and family of Gerald and Ella Florence Williams of Vermillion, South Dakota to benefit Heifer International projects in Cameroon. Gerald Williams was the Heifer International Cameroon director from 1981 to 1985, and the couple is still remembered fondly by former neighbors and co-workers there.
Heifer International has several active projects in Cameroon, a country that suffers from poor nutritional standards, environmental degradation and unemployment. Along with placing a variety of animals - beef and dairy cattle, sheep, goats, rabbits, guinea pigs and poultry - Heifer offers training that addresses environment-friendly agriculture and gender issues. Many of the country's villages are in isolated areas; the goal is to increase a community's knowledge base and self-sufficiency.
