Grace Caliebe received her degree in nursing from Chicago’s Lutheran Deaconess School of Nursing, and began a lifelong career of caring for others. She worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Hines, Illinois, before returning to school to receive her Masters Degree in Nursing from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.

She then taught nursing at the City School of Nursing in Chicago for many years, while continuing to work at the V.A. Hospital in Hines, Illinois, on the weekends. Grace retired from teaching and took a full-time position in administration at the V.A. Hospital. Even after retiring from the V.A. Hospital in 1992, she moved back to Greenwood, Wisconsin to care for her mother.

Grace was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps. She enjoyed traveling and was active in many veterans’ organizations. Her generous bequest to Heifer Foundation will ensure that her passion for helping, healing, and educating others will continue through the work of Heifer International for generations to come.
